Oaklandside Is Spreading Misinformation That Puts Oakland Families at Risk
Oaklandside has published misleading claims about public safety policies and oversight in Oakland — misinformation that only serves to harm the very residents most impacted by violence, theft, and fear in our city. At a time when families, seniors, and small businesses are asking City Hall to prioritize safety, spreading half-truths about proven tools like Flock cameras and police accountability efforts only deepens division and delays real solutions.

Oaklandside published an article today about the Privacy Advisory Commission, and used the article to criticize those who ask for reform of civilian oversight. They also used it as a platform to discredit OPD's proposal for Flock cameras.
They quoted outgoing Privacy Commissioner Brian Hofer (who "resigned" the same day his replacement was appointed).
“Everybody’s blaming civilian oversight for their problems,” he said. “It’s a perfect storm — we’ve got these unsophisticated, loudmouthed people beating on the walls of City Hall, and the electeds love it.”
This article is a direct response to our collective effort to hold these commissions accountable for their actions. We're making a difference!
